Why Unseat Harper

Why does the Harper Government deserve to be unseated?

This Web site, in combination with Canadians Rallying to Unseat Stephen Harper (C.R.U.S.H) Facebook page, is the official Web home of the Canadians Rallying to Unseat Stephen Harper project initiated by Canadians Defending Democracy.

Given our name, it should come as no surprise that the organizers of this group think that the Harper Government deserves to be unseated. The question you might ask is, why?

We believe that the Harper Government has exhibited a long-standing pattern of behaviour that shows contempt for Canadian democratic values and institutions. As a result, we contend that the Harper Government has lost the moral authority to govern.

Over the past five years, the Harper Government has exhibited a consistent pattern of behaviour that shows contempt for Canadian democratic values and institutions. The most recent example of Mr. Harper’s disrespect for the integrity of our Parliamentary system is his apparent endorsement of the actions and behaviour of International Co-operation Minister, Bev Oda.  Pundits tend to agree that Minister Oda not only doctored a document originating in her department, but that she then misled Parliament about her role in the matter.

As you explore the pages in this section of unseatharper.ca you will learn our reasons for believing that it is time to unseat the Harper Government.

Who Are We?

Members of CRUSH come from across the political spectrum, left, right, and centre. We have not polled CRUSH members, but there are likely members of all political parties here, in addition to many people who are not members of any party. Thus, there is no group-wide agreement on policy issues other than those related to what we feel is the anti-democratic behaviour of the Harper Government.

Perhaps another way of describing our members is that we may subscribe to a variety of policy ideologies but that we are united in our belief that the Harper Government’s anti-democratic behaviour more than justifies its unseating through democratic means, regardless of whether you believe that its other policies are the correct ones.
